Root Canal Therapy
Despite its reputation, root canal therapy at Woburn Street Dental is painless, quick, and comfortable. It effectively relieves pain and prevents future oral complications, ensuring your dental health and peace of mind.
A root canal refers to the natural cavity within a tooth that contains the pulp chamber housing nerves. When this area becomes infected due to cavities, trauma, or decay, root canal therapy becomes necessary to prevent complications like abscesses, which can lead to facial swelling and bone loss around the tooth roots.
What to expect during your root canal procedure
1.Initial Consultation
We examine the tooth and take Digital X-rays to assess the extent of damage and plan the treatment.
2. Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the tooth to ensure the patient's comfort during the procedure.
3. Isolation
A rubber dam or similar device is placed around the tooth to keep it dry and free of saliva during the procedure.
4. Pulp Removal
We create a small access hole in the tooth and remove the infected or damaged pulp tissue from the pulp chamber and root canals.
5. Cleaning and Shaping
We clean the inside of the tooth and shape the root canal using special files to remove any remaining debris and bacteria.
6. Medication
In some cases, medication may be placed inside the tooth to clear up any infection.
7. Filling
The cleaned and shaped root canals are filled with a biocompatible material, often gutta-percha, to seal them off and prevent future infection.
8. Temporary Filling
A temporary filling may be placed in the access hole until a permanent filling or crown can be placed.
9. Final Restoration
In some cases, a crown or other restoration may be necessary to protect and restore the tooth's function and appearance.
